The Brits will require the use of a biometric ID card for all their citizens by 2010. The cards cost 35 pounds and contain fingerprint and facial recognition information. I wonder if the US will have the guts to follow suit….

I am waiting for this program to come to the United States so I can welcome it with open arms. It makes sense, think about it:

  • More reliable ID
  • Less forgery
  • Less ID theft

Lets see how biometric ID and TIA could prevent another 9/11, or make life better for you:

  • Identifying illegal aliens who do not possess such ID when they attempt to receive public services.
  • Identifying people who have overstayed their visa
  • Shorter lines at the airport
  • Top-down integration with financial information can make purchasing faster and simpler
  • …..more?
  • Unfortunately, privacy advocates don’t like it. After all, the government may get your……shopping list? Travel records? Well folks, marketing companies get this, and no one bats an eye. So do credit card companies. So whats the beef?
